This is a 3µm transverse slice (#58) of the rat E10 egg cylinder.  Surrounding uterine tissue is not in the picture.  The slice is at the bottom of the U-shaped embryo and cuts through a core of neuroepithelium surrounded by compact mesoderm on either side.  The anterior and posterior parts of the notochordal plate define the base of the midline.
