E13 methacrylate-embedded embryo–coronal slice

Figure 11 is a coronal slice of the anterior telencephalon in the most prominent part of the olfactory placode invagination and is the last figure dealing with E13.  Dense mesenchyme that may be associated with the olfactory nerve is more visible on the right side, mostly lacking on the left side.  The slice is anterior to the ventricular lumen, and all the landmarks associated with that feature are missing.  Consequently, the “labels” are just suggestions of what may be there.  The ventrolateral telencephalic wall has a recognizable zone of larger, postmitotic neurons—those that will settle in the magnocellular basal telencephalic nuclei—and that label is more definite than the others.
